Drug Abuse in America, My Position
By Michael Mooney

I believe that illicit drug use and abuse should basically be decriminilized.

See "The Consumers Union Report on Licit and Illicit Drugs" to get a long-term background perspective. Making the use or abuse of drugs a criminal act does little or nothing to reduce it. It just makes more people into victimless criminals, makes more people turn to crime to support their drug habit and increases the potential for them to burden the medical system because they compromise their health by using poor quality adulterated street drugs.

So highly respected an organization as Consumers' Union recommends various ways to decriminilize drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana. Yes, this is the very same Consumers Union that reviews cars, lawn mowers and coffee makers in its publication Consumer Reports Magazine.

Furthermore, it seems to me from long-term analysis that drug abuse or dependence is in a great number of cases increased by nutritional deficiences that affect brain function. These can potentially be addressed.

I believe that if alcoholic abusers and drug abusers were given optimal potency formulations of all the essential nutrients, and very high doses of omega-3 fats (fish oil), vitamin D3, N-Acetyl Cysteine, and Acetyl-L-Carnitine would see a great number of them have the power of mind to decide to reduce their drug or alcohol use or stop entirely.
